KG 7340 Single Coat Industrial Fluoropolymer Release Coating (Water based)

Description:
KG 7340 is a water-reducible coating that has been developed as a one-coat system to give excellent release (non-stick) properties to molding tools used in the production of rubber goods (including tires), and polyurethane and latex foam products. This coating also gives excellent release of thermoplastics, and is ideal for coating of mould tools for injection and transfer molding.

The coating offers very low V.O.C. while providing good adhesion, durability and chemical resistance, with excellent non-stick properties.

Composition:
KG7340 is a blend of special fluoropolymers in a tough thermo-set polymeric binder. This is held in an aqueous medium giving an extremely low VOC.

Substrate:
KG7340 has been developed for use on both pressed and cast aluminum, as well as other substrate metals. The low cure temperature enables the coating to be used not only on pressure die-cast, but also on gravity cast aluminum with little risk of substrate deformation and blowing.

Pretreatment:
To ensure perfect adhesion, all components to be coated must first be thoroughly degreased by solvent or alkali cleaning, followed by a fine grit blast. After blasting, surface profile should be 4-5 microns as measured with a Brush Analyzer, or 8-10 microns with a Permascope.

Alternatively, components may be etched using a quality proprietary etching and de-smutting system, followed by thorough rinsing and drying.

Specifications:
Flash Point: >96 deg.C
S.G.: 1.2
V.O.C.: Between 3.0 and 8.2%
Solids Content: 41%-43% by weight
+/- 25.5 by volume
Viscosity: 18-34 secs. No. 4 Ford Cup
Thinners: N/A (Supplied ready for use)
Wash-up: Water
Wet Film Thickness: 70-80 um.
Dry Film Thickness: 20-25 um.

Color:
Coating will appear pink in color before spraying. This is to aid in spraying. Upon curing, coating will turn to an off purple color if cured at high temperature and clear when cured at lower temperature.

Shelf-Life:
12 month in sealed containers, provided that the coating is stored at between 20 and 25 deg.C, and drums are rolled once per month for 30 minutes at 25-30 r.p.m.

DO NOT USE HIGH SPEED/HIGH SHEAR MIXER, OR IRREVERSIBLE DAMAGE MAY BE DONE TO THE COATING.

Application:
Before coating is decanted, roll for 30 minutes, or stir gently to ensure coating is well mixed. Application may now be effected using HVLP or conventional spray guns with a nozzle size of 1.5 mm. An atomizing pressure of approximately 1.5-2 ban. It is also possible to use electrostatic guns, either spinning bell or air-assisted type, using an electrically isolated system.

Flash Off :
Allow water to flash off before sintering. This may be done at ambient temperature in dust-free conditions, or by force-drying at between 80-90 deg.C for 3-5 minutes.

Cure Schedule:
After flash-off, coating should be fully cured at 200 deg.C (peak metal temperature) for 30 minutes. The coating may also be cured at higher temperatures for a shorter time, up to a maximum of 370 deg.C for 5 minutes (peak metal temperature). Lowest permissible cure is 160 deg.C/30 minutes. The higher the cure temperature, the better the release properties.

Removal:
Coating may be removed before final curing by washing with water. After curing, coating may only be removed by grit blasting.
