What Is the MH180-S Tactical Headset System?

MH180-S Netherlands The MH180-S Tactical Sniper Headset System is the first and only tactical bone conduction headset on the market allowing a sniper to choose from one of four differing lengths of stainless steel headset frames – assuring a personalized, custom fit and optimal positioning of the bone conduction device for receiving radio communications.

Additionally, the MH180-S features a unique, non-microphone, side piece housing designed to provide the sniper an unobstructed cheek-weld. Until now, snipers had been forced to accept bone conduction headsets (as well as many other headset designs) in supposed ‘one-size-fits-all’ models which, in reality, correctly fit only a percentage of the users and many times caused conflicts when a sniper attempted to obtain a secure cheek weld. The distinctive feature of the MH180-S’s variety of head frame sizes provides the sniper, for the first time ever, access to a tactical headset system custom manufactured specifically to his individual head and face dimensions while also offering the added advantage of total access to the non-microphone side of the face to assure a secure, firm and unobstructed cheek weld.

The MH180-S system also offers the sniper the option of employing the standard, adjustable, Velcro, rear retention strapping system for positioning the headset firmly on the head, as well as, an optional, adjustable, Front/Rear, Velcro strapping system. Due to several requests from snipers and the fact that few utilize a PASGT or KEVLAR helmet, we now offer the optional Front/Rear retention strap that can be adjusted to offer the individual sniper a more stable, custom fit.

Recognizing the needs of both left and right handed shooters, the unique design of the MH180-S affords the sniper the choice of positioning the bone vibrator and boom microphone on the non-microphone side of the face – eliminating any headset component conflicts with the stock of a weapon.

Another unique feature of the MH180-S headset is, because of its design, it can be worn independently of or incorporated with a tactical hearing protection headset – the PANTHER. Rather than forcing an operator to wear a communication system that combines hearing protection, environmental amplification and radio RX and TX in one headset, we offer the tactical operator a distinctive advantage - allowing him to choose when and when not to employ hearing protection, yet never placing the operator in a position of not having radio comms capability. We would also encourage you to take a few moments to review the following additional links on our site: The Phenomenon of Auditory Exclusion and Tactical Hearing Protection Field Test Report before making a decision whether or not to purchase tactical hearing protection and, if so, what type.

MH180-S Netherlands Utilizing bone vibration transducer technology (receiving radio communications through the facial bones rather than the ear canal), the MH180-S affords the tactical operator the advantage of having no speaker hardware in, on or over either ear – allowing 360 degrees of unobstructed natural hearing of ambient auditory sounds. The audio transducer, strategically placed inside the single headset housing, is positioned in front of the ear. Radio transmissions are received through the transducer, transferred through the temporal bones of the face and received in the inner ear canal. The MH180-S Tactical Sniper Headset System features a single transducer for receiving. The MH180-S submersible (1 meter), noise canceling, microphone provides the sniper the advantage of being able to cancel out competing noise in his operating environment when transmitting. When the push-to-talk button is activated, the finely tuned MH180-S microphone effectively cancels out competing environmental noise while transmitting clearly and concisely. Several styles of Push-To-Talk assemblies are available for the MH180-S affording the sniper the ability to mount a PTT button to the index finger or on a weapon.
